Course Overview:

Unlock the potential of STEAM education for middle school students with our dynamic 6-8 grade STEAM Course. This immersive program introduces learners to the SAM Studio platform, fostering an understanding of skills essential for the future. Through a hands-on, career-focused approach, students will explore the interconnectedness of STEAM subjects, previously taught in isolation, and delve into real-world applications.

They'll engage in projects that mirror actual STEAM careers, from creating in SAM Space and SAM Script to hands-on builds, emphasizing career readiness. This course not only highlights the vast opportunities within the STEAM fields but also equips students with authentic learning experiences, preparing them for future educational and career goals by showcasing the practical application of their education.

The units are designed to provide students with an opportunity to see how STEAM subjects are interconnected, as these are typically skills and content knowledge taught in isolation of each other. This course will take a STEAM career focus, allowing students to complete projects that are typical of that career, using multiple disciplines along the way. By providing students with authentic learning opportunities and anchoring them with real-world challenges, situations, and examples, students are better able to see how education comes together as a whole for future career opportunities as they progress and begin to look towards future goals.

In the final unit, students will revisit key topics through the lens of influential STEAM pioneers, engaging in thematic hands-on projects. This culmination invites reflection on their Future Ready and STEAM skills, leading to the creation of their own SAM Spotlight autobiography.

Activities offer quick, engaging introductions to STEAM concepts in 30 minutes or less, focusing on a single standard without formal lesson plans.

Ideal for teachers short on time or new to SAM Labs, these activities spark student creativity through designs, presentations, discussions, and coding when relevant.

Our in-depth lessons span 30-45 minutes, extendable for longer periods, and align with standards like NGSS, ISTE, CSTA, and Common Core.
Structured in three parts—Engage, Apply, Reflect—these interactive lessons require devices for student interaction, including coding, physical computing challenges, and prototyping, supported by comprehensive lesson plans for teachers.
