Do you have a K-5th grade student interested in creating, coding, and problem-solving?

Join SAM Labs and Portland Public Schools for a 5 week-long program where students learn foundational coding skills, push the limits of creativity, and solve real world challenges. At the end, students will present their design prototype!

No prior coding experience is necessary. Students must be enrolled in Portland Public Schools in order to participate.

What do I need to know?

How can I get a hold of you or my student?

For non-immediate concerns, please email us at ppssummercamp@samlabs.com or joel.reber@samlabs.com

If you have an immediate need or concern, please text us at ‪(831) 419 - 7428.

What are the dates?

The Academy will take place from July 1st - August 1st. There will be a holiday break on July 4th and 5th. Each day starts with lunch at 12:30 pm and ends at 5:30 pm.

What school sites are the camps held at?

We will be hosting the camp at the following sites:

  • Peninsula Elementary
    8125 N Emerald Ave, Portland, OR 97217

  • Arleta Elementary
    5109 SE 66th Ave, Portland, OR 97206

What does my child need to bring?

Students will need to bring their school-issued Chromebook if they have it to access our coding platform, SAM Studio.  We will provide some Chromebooks for student use as well.

We will provide all other planning, building and maker materials for the Academy.

Transportation

Pick-up: Parents and/or guardians will pick up students at assigned sites between 5:00 and 5:30 pm. Parents/Guardians will need to confirm that there will be someone to pick up their child by 5:30 pm daily. Because the program will take place in the afternoon, students will already be on site when the afternoon programming begins at 12:30 PM.

Walking: Students are allowed to walk home if you indicate your permission while registering your child.  You must sign a Release of Liability Waiver, not holding SAM Labs or PPS responsible after your child leaves campus.

Note: Public transportation bus passes are available upon request and are first come, first serve with registration.

If your child has a 504 or IEP on file at PPS, please reach out to us as we may be able provide transportation accommodations.

What food options are available?

Free lunch and snack will be provided to all students. Afternoon programming will begin after students have lunch from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm. We will be providing a healthy snack during our 1:30 pm - 5:30 pm schedule. Students can also bring lunch and snacks from home to eat during designated break times.

Please note that for health and safety concerns, students are not allowed to share food.

Health and Safety

All instructors and students will be in compliance with the county and PPS policies.
